iBCI-CC

We envision a future where iBCIs improve the lives of individuals living with neurological conditions, empowering each user of an iBCI to lead a fuller and more independent life.

About the iBCI-CC

The iBCI-CC is a collaborative community of diverse stakeholders that address challenges in the development, safety and efficacy evaluation, and access to implantable brain-computer interfaces (iBCIs).

Our Workgroups

To facilitate advancements in implantable brain-computer interfaces, the iBCI-CC organizes its efforts through seven topic-specific Workgroups. These workgroups consist of stakeholders with the expertise, interest, and/or commitment to develop clear recommendations on key issues for broader discussion and deliberation. They disseminate project updates and findings through educational outreach, scientific presentations, and publicly accessible resources.

The seven Workgroups are:

  1. User Priorities/Preferences and iBCI Use Cases

  2. Clinical Study Endpoints

  3. Clinical Practice Guidelines

  4. Payor Interactions and Device Categorization

  5. Modular Components, Interoperability, and ISO/Other Standards

  6. Public Messaging, BCI Education, and Regulatory Science Education that could support policy

  7. Ethics, Neural Data Privacy, and Data Security

The iBCI-CC prioritizes transparency by sharing materials and links to relevant organizations, aiming to assist all stakeholders. Initial efforts focus on regulatory and translational challenges within the United States.
